Grady McFerrin

I'm trying to think of a way I could love Grady McFerrin less, but he's so 'effin awesome that I can't. (He's also so 'effin awesome that it makes me type out "'effin".) Check him out or forever regret it.

Marisa Post

I feel like Marisa posting pictures of flowers, but whatever, these guys are tiny and cute and cool. They're in the pot that sits by the corner of the shed and I'm afraid I'm going to knock them over every time I pull in with my car. Each cluster of flowers is like a tiny half-rainbow!

Rummaging 6/17, Part 2

These are the last two things I shoved in the car last Thursday when my mother and I were out rummaging. Look!

This little bookcase was exactly what I kind of knew I needed but wasn't ready to admit it yet. (Aka: I have way too many books and no place to put them and every other bookshelf I've seen is giant and modern.) It was also from the Klusendorf "farm" (I'm sure I mutilated their name) and even though it's missing its back piece, I adore it. It's got just the right amount of wear and tear to it, and it came from a woman who knew me when I was four.

I've seen quite a few drawers like this in my rounds, but this one had everything- pretty good condition, the original handle, and no mysterious larvae hanging around. I've been looking for one to hang on my wall and stash all my teeny-tink knick-knacks in and this shall work peeeerfectly. I cleaned off the grey paint on the side and who knew? It's actually light blue. (ps- Cleaning finds may or may not be my favorite part of the entire shebang.)

Rummaging 6/17, Part 1

Here are some more finds from my expedition last Thursday! (The raccoons made an appearance because I was cleaning them at the same time I was cleaning everything else and I just couldn't resist.)

l to r: Another Richard Scarry book, my babies!, a coral picture frame from St. Vinnie's, a wooden wall hanging clip with strawberries on it, and a really pathetic picture of the classic doe-eyed kitty.

l to r: Four vintage Avon bottles (the milk can, the rooster, the ice cream cone, and the other yellow canister thingy), a fuzzy bunny bank, a tiny yellow-capped jar, and an Apple Dumplin' mug that actually came from a rummage sale being held by one of my old preschool teachers. She's moving from this giant house in a subdivision on a golf course full of other giant houses to be up north, closer to her kids. The entire golf course used to be her farm and they'd take us there to visit when we were in preschool! It's kind of a total bummer seeing it populated by regulated lamp posts instead of happy cows.

I (still) have more things to post from that day of thrifting, but I saved the two largest items for last. Also, I actually went to the same rummage where I got 3 of the 4 Avon bottles again today with both my parents and picked up (gasp) another vintage Avon perfume bottle. I swear it wasn't there last time! ...although, admittedly, this guy has three plus garages chocked full of cluttered dirty old stuff, so it's likely I might have missed an object or two.

Rummaging 6/12

(Now that summer has hit full force, there are going to be a lot more of these rummaging posts, so prepare yourself!)

---

I first saw these cute glasses last Friday, but they were a little too expensive for my yard sale budget so I left them behind. However, that night I was still thinking about them, and after I mentioned them to my parents and saw that they didn't think my idea of an "awesome find" was at all dubious (unlike many of the other strange goodies I find), I googled what the glasses went for on ebay. Turns out what I thought was out of my budget was actually a pretty darn good deal, so I went back Saturday morning with the 'rents and scooped them up.

It's a little hard to tell in the picture, but they're novelty glasses from the '40s with naked ladies on the inside. I was so excited to find them--especially because everything else at that rummage was so drab!

Rummaging 6/11

Just a couple things I picked up last Friday...

This vintage jewelry box is in pretty rough shape (there's that paint on the outside, some glitter glue on the mirror inside, and some damage to the lining) but I love a little restoration project, plus...

It had stars on it!! (This was the main sell point.) The boy manning the rummage was someone from my graduating class (AJ, I think his name was?) and he was very quiet and creepy, so I moved through quickly. He did have a cute black kitty that he shushed off a chair that was for sale, though. :)

And my favorite purchase, this little family of raccoons! I found them in a rummage full of very nice vintage (and expensive!) wood furniture along with a lot of collectibles... these were really the only cute/silly/thing for under a dollar there, and when I happily brought them up to the elderly gentleman who was running things he looked at them and said, "What are those? Raccoons? ...my wife must have stuck those out here."

Young Me/Now Me

I fell in love with this website a while back and I'm fairly certain I never posted about it, but when I stumbled upon it again and found a slew of new photos up I knew I had to spread the word. The website is called Young Me/Now Me and it features a collection of submissions where people recreated old photos of themselves. The best ones are the ones where it's really similar to the original, and you can tell the people put some thought into the pictures. I have a photo of myself when I was three that I'd love to recreate...

Here are three of my favorites:The pins just make this one. :)

The thing that makes this one is imagining those grown men going and finding those horrid plaid pants...

This might be the only time I find an adult in a diaper amusing.

Four Years Later

Just a couple pictures from a few weeks back when 2/3rds of the high school gang got together for dinner. We actually got together to celebrate Chase's 22nd birthday... but she was unable to make it, haha.

It's Happening Again

I pride myself in being a long time Threadless fan (I placed my first order six years ago). It's the same feeling you get when your awesome cool neato band that only you listen to is suddenly blasting on the radio--kind of proud, kind of "But I did it first!"

As it is (and especially nowadays since the prices have gone up), I only order when they have their $10 sales. I typically allow myself a max of three tees... there were a few too many dorky kitty shirts out there this time around so my limit got a little stretched. Heh. (Don't worry, only to four!)

Millipedes Are Like 10 Times Better Than Centipedes by Sam Zivot

the classic Three Keyboard Cat Moon (which I have been coveting forever because I am a dork) by Oxen

and last but definitely not least, Meowy Wowy by tenso GRAPHICS
This is probably my favorite from the bunch because it reminds me of an old T-shirt of my mother's I wear a lot, which features three cats rocking out with the words "Sex, Mice, and Rock n' Roll" underneath.

The sale is only on until the 14th! Go!

I Heart: My Name

For a long while my mother and I have picked up various A's, B's, and I's to hang on my bedroom wall whenever we come across them. I'd show a picture but my room is in a bit of a disarray at the moment. But I couldn't keep these to myself--here are a few letters I stumbled upon on Etsy that looked like they would fit right in on my wall.

...and because I couldn't find an "I" I was really excited about... a cute mirror from Urban Outfitters that is on clearance now for $15!

Alphabet Posters

My art class with the kindergartens (at Prairie View, not Section) made alphabet posters as one of their last big projects of the school year. I'm in love with how graphic they look and really want to make one myself. Here are a few of them, with the rest available for viewing riiiight here.

by Dalton (who did a very good job fitting all his letters in!)

by Lorena (who is the most diligent kindergartner I've ever seen)

by Abi (who I discovered half way through the class was actually the daughter of my piano teacher--I remember when she was negative nine months old and she's SIX now! And I'm going to brag and say her name is totally spelled "Abi" because of moi. True story.)

Crazy Kitties

One of my favorite projects we worked on in my art class with the third graders was making cats inspired by Laurel Burch--the best part was I had the time to make one alongside them! Here are a few of my favorites... including my own. You can see everyone's here, at Artsonia. It's a neat website where the kids' art is uploaded so their family members and friends can see what they (as well as everyone in their class) have been working on. It's the best change there's been at my elementary school since I went there, I'd say! I'm totally jealous!

Taylor's cat looks happy and fat. And French?

Jolene's looks dreamy and kind of sad, I think.

Anthony's cat totally looks like he'd be the annoying kid in class. I adore the whiskers.

This guy is mine- it was windy when I was toting him to my car so the pastel got a little smudged in places, but am rather fond of his fat head.
